So, You want to fit an Internal I.D.E Hard Drive ?
Well, Read on.....
***** WARNING *****
THIS PROCEDURE WILL INVALIDATE YOUR 1 YEAR WARRANTY. DO NOT
PERFORM THIS PROJECT UNLESS YOUR WARRANTY HAS ALREADY EXPIRED.
THIS PROCEDURE (IF NOT FOLLOWED CORRECTLY) COULD SERIOUSLY DAMAGE
YOUR A1200. "CHANNEL Z" CAN ACCEPT ** NO RESPONSIBILITY **
WHATSOEVER FOR ANY DAMAGES THAT MAY OCCUR DURING THIS PROCEDURE
BEING CARRIED OUT BY THE USER. IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT,
DO NOT CARRY OUT THIS PROCEDURE.
Right then, lets begin.
First of all unplug All the wires from your A1200 and turn it
upside down on a flat surface, and remove the FIVE screws that are
holding the casing together.
Now carefully turn the computer back over (so its the right way
round and remove the top cover being careful not to remove the
wires connecting the LED lights (on the cover) to the Main Board.
Now lift the keyboard up being VERY CAREFUL not to remove the
cable connecting the keyboard to the computer, and lie the keyboard
down on the upturned top cover of the computer.
Now you will see the metal casing around the computer and you will
also see the Hard Drive cradle, remove this from the computer.
(it is only resting on the board on four small legs)
Now get your cradle and turn it upside down, so that the four
legs are facing upwards. now turn it so that the single rest is at
the top and the keyboard rests are nearest to you.
Now holding the I.D.E Drive with
the cable to the right handside of the drive you can put the cradle
on top of the drive. Now line up the holes in the drive-cradle
with the holes in the drive-casing and insert the four screws that
should have been supplied with the Hard Drive.
Now look for the Hard Drive connector, it is to the left of the
space that has been left by the cradle (it is a rectangular group
of pins sticking up from the board ! )
Now holding the drive in your left hand (with the wires still on
the right hand side) connect the Hard Drive wire to the connection
on the computer. making sure that the pins and holes are all lined
up correctly.
When this is done you can flip the drive over and return the cradle
to its original possition. Now replace the keyboard on top of the
computer and then replace the upper cover, carefully flip it over
again and insert the screws.
Now flip it back over again, insert the wires into the back of the
computer and you have just installed your very own hard drive !
